We arrived back at the house. Nighttime shadows played with my eyes as Mr. Bennet stopped still just outside the door front.

“Something is wrong; something or someone is here. I can feel it.” He went in first and frantically began to search each room.

“Candra, stay outside, it’s not safe in here.” He rushed upstairs, but I didn’t listen to him and went inside.

As I walked in, I found a stranger, a woman, standing like a statue by the stairs. Her clothes were torn and she swayed slightly from side to side.

She looked distressed and so I slowly walked up to her. She was breathing oddly; her diaphragm would contract inwardly as if labored when she inhaled and she looked dazed.

“Um, are you ok? How did you get in?” She turned her head slowly and looked right through me. Her eyes were lifeless and they were as dark as the night… as the child, I saw in my vision. I felt my heart thump and self-preservation kicked in. Without outwardly showing the panic I felt, I started to inch myself backward. The corners of her mouth curved upward showing her fangs as her breathing rapidly changed. She started to pant very fast, almost convulsing as she sniffed the air, drool overflowed from her lips as she hissed, then dove. I screamed out in terror as I hit the floor. She was now onto top of me. She grabbed my hair, pulling my face toward her mouth.

With all my might, I punched her in the face. She fell to the side. I ran for the front door. A loud growl came from behind. Deep within, strength bubbled to the surface, the will to live still stronger than my will to die. My hand was within inches of the hall table, in one fell swoop, I grabbed its leg, threw the table at her, and ran. Within seconds, she had taken hold of me and held me fast by the neck.

“Hey, Candra… want to be blood sisters? No, I doubt that you would, but we’ve known each other for so long I would think you might care that I’m hungry.”

Nauseated that this bitch wanted me dead, my mouth went dry as I tried to speak. “I remember you. You were the waitress at the diner.”

She laughed at my words and her response held a note of impatience. “You were always such a loner, too good for the rest of us, a Rosewood, but right now I’ve got better things to do than talk.”

“You’ll make my family angry if you kill me! I’m sure you wouldn’t want to deal with them now would you?” Sounded quite lame, but at the moment I had to stall. Where in the hell was Mr. Bennet anyway?

She didn’t listen to me. Hunger was her only motive and it craved on her like a monkey on a cupcake. She eyed me up and down. Yup, I’m that cupcake alright.

“What do I care? When I am finished with you, then you can…” A guttural laugh sounded, “be with your parents”.
